Islam is a deen–a complete, total, and comprehensive way of life. Islam teaches us everything, from how to worship Allah (سبحانه وتعال), to how to eat, sleep, socialize, govern a state, perform financial transactions, everything!
What, then, are some of the etiquettes of eating?
‘Umar bin Abu Salamah (رضي الله عنه) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم), said to me, “Mention Allah’s Name (i.e., say Bismillah before you start eating), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you.”
From this hadith, we deduce three etiquettes:
- Say bismillah before you start eating
- Eat with your right hand
- Eat what’s closest to you–don’t grab that tasty tidbit from the opposite side of the plate!
But what if you forget to say bismillah? What should you do then?
‘Aisha (رضي الله عنها) reported: Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) said, “When any of you wants to eat, he should mention the Name of Allah in the beginning, (i.e., say bismillah). If he forgets to do it in the beginning, he should say: Bismillah fiy awwalihi wa akhirihi (I begin with the Name of Allah at the beginning and at the end).”
May Allah (سبحانه وتعال) allow us all to understand and comprehend the greatness and completeness of our perfect and eternal deen, ameen!

(Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam as our beloved Rasool,Mercy for Mankind- the Leader of all Prophets)
Question :
We are seeking help of Hadis reference.
During the Miraaj,Nabi Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) appealed to Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa to see the origin of Al Kausar River, Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa said to our beloved Prophet (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) to follow the upstream the river but after proceeding much Rasool (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) could not reached to the origin,Again
Nabi Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) appealed, Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa said to start with
BISMILLAH. Accordingly Nabi Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) started and reached to the Origin of the AL Kausar BUT found it is flowing from a big box.Rasool Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) again appealed to Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa, to see the inside of the BOX. Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa, told to open the box and see BUT Nabi Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) could not
Open the BOX. Again appealed to Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa. In answer, Allah Subhana hu wa Ta’alaa advised to Rasool Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) to recite BISMILLAH and hit the BOX. At this the gigantic Box opened and Nabi Kareem (Sall llAah u Alaihi wa Sallam) found nothing into the Box except Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem.
The River AL-Kausar is flowing or originating from the last portion or from the TAIL of the alphabet
MIM of the sentence Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem. Sobhan Allah,the barkat of Bismillah.
Thais is what written in the Kitab “ Niyamul Quaran ”,but no reference of Hadis mentioned .
Therefore,it will be much appreciated if you could confirm it with the relevant Shahi HADIS reference.
