The Islamic Diet

We turn to the Qur'an for matters of fiqh, 'aqeedah and language, yet do we turn to the Qur'an for basic matters in our day to day lives? Did you know that the Qur'an outlines for us a special islamic diet? Learn the two extremes of eating, and how Allah ta'ala commands us to eat.

Levels of Patience

Bismillah walhamdolilah wasalatu wasalam 'ala Rasool Allah
Asalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu,
Truly, patience is a characteristic of the Muslim that is required on many levels:

Patience in worshiping Allah
Patience in abstaining from wrong actions
Patience at times of trials

These are the three levels we should constantly be monitoring, for verily it is these levels of patience that [...]

It is they who are Guided

Bismillah walhamdolilah wasalatu wasalam 'ala Rasool Allah
Asalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu,
My dear brothers and sisters in this beautiful religion of Islam, sometimes we have to sit back and ponder about life and ponder about the purpose of it. Sometimes we know the purpose, yet we fall of track due to the play and amusement [...]

Find Peace

Bismillah
Sitting in a halaqah–in a khutbah–in an AlMaghrib class, learning about the deen of Allah– the emanrush, your heart just flutters with tranquility. With satisfaction. With humility. With peace.
Why do we only feel this way in these gatherings?
Allah azza wa jal provides the answer:
He says in Surah Ra’d ayah 28:

الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللّهِ [...]

I Complain only to Allah

Bismillah walhamdolilah wasalatu wasalam 'ala Rasool Allah
Asalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu,
I start by asking a very simple question: Where does patience stand within our lives today?
SubhanAllah, what a beautiful trait it is yet we rarely see the implementation of it. Such a beautiful tree by which the sweetest of fruits cultivate and bless our [...]

Just Two More?!

Ibn Kathir, in his tafseer of the ayaat about the Slaves of Ar-Rahman, mentions the translation that they sleep little and pray to Allah at night with fear and hope, and asking for forgiveness. Ibn Abbaas mentions that it's very easy to get this same reward (to be written as the muhsinoon!)--all you have to do is pray two extra rak'aahs (but when?) ...

Comfortable?

In our day to day lives; through work, school, family; we sometimes forget the real reason why we are living in this dunya--and the quick passing of it. We get comfortable. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) stated in a hadeeth, "How can I feel comfort when...?" Find out what he was referring to, and his advice on what to say in these times (صلى الله عليه و سلم).

The Day of Arafah

Arafah IS Hajj. And the best du'a you can make is the du'a on the day of Arafah. So how can you really milk this day and get the most out of it? Prepare a massive du'a list--twenty pages or more. Make du'a for your eman, your health, your akhira, your wealth, your children, your ummah, ... everybody and everything you can think of. And twenty pages will not be enough, even with all that. We list some pointers to get you started--things that will help get you thinking and get your creativity flowing.

No Plans for Friday?

The Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) also said, whoever supplicates Allah to send salaat on me once, Allah will send salaat upon him TEN TIMES. What does salaat mean? He also said: Surely, among the best of your days is Friday; so increase in (invoking Allah's) Salaat upon me during it, for your (invocations for Allah's) Salaat (upon me) will be displayed to me. Fill your Fridays with salaat insha'Allah and reap the reward in the akhira.

Hajj Black Dots

Most people see the black dots, not the white dots--the negative. Allah says: And few of my servants are thankful... How can we be thankful--especially on Hajj, when we see so many trials around us? People getting wronged left and right, 30-minute line-ups for washrooms, buses that come hours upon hours late ... how can we learn to see the white dots that we know are there?
