Comfortable?

In our day to day lives; through work, school, family; we sometimes forget the real reason why we are living in this dunya--and the quick passing of it. We get comfortable. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) stated in a hadeeth, "How can I feel comfort when...?" Find out what he was referring to, and his advice on what to say in these times (صلى الله عليه و سلم).

The Day of Arafah

Arafah IS Hajj. And the best du'a you can make is the du'a on the day of Arafah. So how can you really milk this day and get the most out of it? Prepare a massive du'a list--twenty pages or more. Make du'a for your eman, your health, your akhira, your wealth, your children, your ummah, ... everybody and everything you can think of. And twenty pages will not be enough, even with all that. We list some pointers to get you started--things that will help get you thinking and get your creativity flowing.

No Plans for Friday?

The Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم) also said, whoever supplicates Allah to send salaat on me once, Allah will send salaat upon him TEN TIMES. What does salaat mean? He also said: Surely, among the best of your days is Friday; so increase in (invoking Allah's) Salaat upon me during it, for your (invocations for Allah's) Salaat (upon me) will be displayed to me. Fill your Fridays with salaat insha'Allah and reap the reward in the akhira.

Hajj Black Dots

Most people see the black dots, not the white dots--the negative. Allah says: And few of my servants are thankful... How can we be thankful--especially on Hajj, when we see so many trials around us? People getting wronged left and right, 30-minute line-ups for washrooms, buses that come hours upon hours late ... how can we learn to see the white dots that we know are there?

Success is For the Believers

Successful are the believers, those who offer their salaah with khushoo. What does this really mean? It means to establish the salaah, fully and properly, on time, and to pray with full khushoo--not quickly or lazily. And this is our purpose--because Allah said, He did not create humans and Jinn EXCEPT to worship him. So establish salaah--because you never know when your time will come.

A Complete Duaa

We have all heard the duaa many times in our lives: Rabbana aatina fid-dunya hasanah, wa fil-akhirati hasanah, wa qinaa athaban naar, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire". But have we ever realized how complete this duaa is? This simple duaa contains everything one would wish for in this life and the next, yet many of us say this duaa without realizing how precious it is ...

Is Alcohol Najas?

Is alcohol najas? While scholars disagreed, all for madhahib say it IS najas. Why? Because of the ayah in Surah Ma'idah--alcohol, divination, and gambling are rijs (filth). Filth is najas by default! And the hadith of washing the inaa' of the people of the book--inaa' refers to plates and bowls and utensils, but also cups! Why mention cups? Alcohol!

Tawaf 101

What is tawaf, and how do you do it? What are the best times to do tawaf? Tawaf means to circle the Ka'bah in a state of wudoo. You recite Qur'an, du'a, or dhikr. Avoid hurting your brothers and sisters in Islam.

Fasting in Muharram

The month of Muharram is upon us! One great sunnah of this month is to fast the day of Ashoora, as well as the day before it--the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The reward for this is expiation of sins of the previous year, according to a hadith in Saheeh Muslim. And don't sin! The sin is multiplied in this month, too.
