The Noble Prophet (SAW) told us that the best dua to make is the dua of Prophet Yunus (AS) when he was inside the whale:

La ilaha ila anta subhanaka inni kuntu min adh-dhalimeen

Ameen. I also wanted to share a short gem from the Qur'an concerning duaa, it relates perfectly with this post.

In Surah al-Baqarah ayah 129, Ibrahim alayhi sallam made the duaa (translation): "Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

Ibrahim alayhi sallam made this duaa when he nd Ismail alayhi sallam were placing the foundation for the ka'ba. Ask yorself, when was this duaa answered? approx. 2,500 years later...yes, thats right, more than TWO THOUSAND years later--Ibrahim alayhi sallam wasn't even alive when this duaa was accepted! What does this teach us? We have to be patient with our duaas! We expect a response by the time we finish saying Ameen and put our hands down, but look at this duaa--not only did Allah ta'ala respond to it, He brought from the children of Ismail the best person to walk upon this earth, sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam. Don't loose hope in your duaas and at the same time ask Allah to give you from His great bounty. wa lillahil hamd.

Allaahumma Aa-meen. In reading your post I started thinking about the usual approach that we (as human beings) take in response to tests, trials, tribulations, etc. Many (if not most) people have this inherent desire to confide in another and to have someone tell them that everything will be okay. SubhanAllah! Allah, in his perfect wisdom, has given us the privilege of all of these things. When we want to confide in another, He is ALWAYS listening, and when we need to trust in something greater than we can see, He is the one from whom help is to be sought and in whom we should (and wholeheartedly can) put our trust. And, as you stated, even greater than all of this, He is the only one who can really do anything about it. SubhanAllah--Indeed our Creator is All Wise and Most Merciful, May He not leave us in charge of our own affairs, even for the blink of an eye.
