Jazakum Allahu khayran. My intention was not to ask for a fatwa but to understand more clearly what shaykh AbdulBary stated in the class.

Wa'alikum as-salaam,

According to shaykh Abdul-Bary Yahya, he said that all types of alcohol, not just the drinking one, are najas. And he said about medicine: Allah will never put a cure in something that is najas. You don't need it.

And Allah knows best. Please don't ask us for fatawa :) the intention of this post was to explain the proofs of the opinion. Rather, consult with scholars and people of knowledge. You can find a great fatwa site at http://www.islam-qa.com.

So bottom line is that we don't use it in cooking but general things like lens-cleaner is ok? And what about medicines?

Wa'alikum as-salaam,

1. Those who say Alcohol is not najas quote this ayah as well (5:90). They say that this ayah is talking about SPIRITUAL najasa, not PHYSICAL najasa--because gambling and divination are not PHYSICALLY najas.

2. Imam Malik said it's najas, but says you can use it in small amounts such that it doesn't change the original substance.

Wallahu ta'ala 'alim.

AsSalamAlykum,
Couple of questions:
1. >>Those who say alcohol is not najas use this ayah too–gambling and divination are spiritually najas. If you walk into a gambling machine, you don’t go wash it off! And alcohol is mentioned here too. But the refutal is that it’s common sense that gambling and divination aren’t physically najas.<<

So they say that the ayah only talks about physical najasat?

2. I didnt understand the last paragraph..Is it talking about Imam Maliks opinion..Can you please expand on it
