Mujahideen Culture: Khalid bin Walid and Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah

Among the culture of the mujahideen is that they honoured each others' families. If someone died in battle, their wives were married to people of equal stature after the 'iddah (mourning period).

Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah, during the time of Abu Bakr as-Siddique, radiallahu 'an, did not want to pay zakaah. There's a difference of opinion, and Allahu 'alim, he (Malik ibn An-Nuwayrah) was not Muslim.

Kahlid bin Walid killed him one night. About this, Abu Bakr said: "He [Khalid, radiallahu 'anh] made ijtihad and made a mistake." They kept him in leadership of the army.

After her 'iddah, Khalid (radiallahu 'anh) married the wife of Malik bin An-Nuwayrah.

Subhanallah.

Orientalists use this point to attack Khalid (radiallahu 'an). They turn it into a soap-opera--they attack intentions--so get the story straight.

  1. Salaam, I would like to know the book you posted the extract from, if possible. It would be much appreciated. This incident has certainly turned into a soap opera and I would like to study it in more detail including the historian.

  2. The material is from AlMaghrib’s Conquest: History of the Khulafa course. I’m sure there are several books that discuss it, but I don’t know any personally.

  3. visit http://www.swordofallah.com for some information on the incident.

This is an entire biography on Khalid bin Walid, but it also contains a few errors - most notably, it glorifies a rivalry between ‘Umar (RA) and Khalid (RA), which probably doesnt deserve the attention.

As for Orientalists… Muhammad M. Al-Azami does a fine job of trashing their theories into dust. I recommend all books by the author. :D
