Qareen

What is a Qareen? A shaytaan, a devil, assigned to someone to mislead and misguide him. Someone to whisper to him in the light of day and the darkness of night. Allah says:

وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَاناً فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرِينٌ

Translation: And whoever is blinded from remembrance of Ar-Rahman, we appoint for him a qareen, and he is to him a companion. [Surah Az-Zukhruf, verse 36]

Why is this important? You should know that you have an enemy; someone who’s always watching you, taking notes on you, recording what you do; his goal is to mislead you and misguide you and drag you into the Hellfire. That’s his full-time job, no vacation time and no breaks! Subhanallah! The Prophet says:

Translation: The Messenger of Allah once told his companions: Everyone of you has been assigned a companion from the Jinn. They asked: Even you, O Messenger of Allah! He replied: Yes, except that Allah has helped me against him, fa aslam. Now he only tells me to do good. [Saheeh Muslim]

What does fa aslam mean? Scholars give it two meanings. One meaning is that the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و سلم) qareen became Muslim. Imam Nawawi and other scholars say, it means the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) was protected from his qareen.

Does this mean we, too, can make du’a and give da’wah to our qareen and try to make him or her Muslim? Unfortunately, scholars say it’s specific to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم).

So what’s the conclusion? Know you have an enemy. Recognize it. And struggle against it; because the one who has an enemy and struggles and overcomes him is better then one who has no enemy and is just “ok.” Think about it! For every waswasa you turn away, you get a hassanah. For every sin you change your mind on, Allah credits you a good deed. For every sin you commit, you can repent, and scholars say the one who sins and repents is better than the one who never sinned.

So brighten up! Allah appointed you a qareen, yes; but this is a great and wonderful opportunity for you to attain mountains of deeds! Allahu akbar!

May Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) allow us to overcome our qareens and become people of Jannah, ameen!

A solemn glee posses through my soul after reading you.no
doubt! your research and knowldge in this regard is morvelous, you have meterial which prove your efficiency and your hard work. I wish you do much more needed research on the subject
I am from Hyderabad AP.India, I have seen people making friendship with Qareen and taking advise related to medical field.they insist that taking advise from even kafir is not against Islam.

  2. @Br. Nawab, jazakumullahu khayran.

As to your question … I suggest you speak to a local shaykh or imam, insha’Allah. The worlds of Jinn and Men rarely collide, and when they do, more often than not, the result is bad. Wallahu ‘alam.

i have always been able to talk to my jinn he gave good advice but i know he also used me to turn people to fantasies of the occult. since i came to islam i have not had any psychic impressions at all. i was in the know about a lot of things and amazed alot of people with what i said. i could tell them things that were not parlor games, i knew astrological signs, once 3 girls asked me to guess the color of their underwear and then they showed me by pulling part of them over their pants to prove me right, i guessed a few other things about them that i knew they could not lie to me about like month of their birth. i once saved a friends life but even that i know was to keep him away from Allah (swt). now that i have islam i have not a like to psychic info ever. i actually disliked the knowledge i had about the future and people. fortune telling is a curse. i never used it to make money but i know it did lead others astray.

  4. @crazyer, alhamdulillah that Allah has given you Islam and saved you from this (major shirk). If you ever find Jinns bothering you, start reciting ayatul-kursi and the other adhkaar, and surah baqarah.

If you get a chance, listen to Kitab At-Tawheed from audioislam.com.

Scondly! the Qareen, and their world, their inhabitants and existence after the death of a person is not yet clarified by any Shaik by this time .
Please be kind to provide me the meterial if you come across.
    with regards

  6. @Nawabzadah Shajee,

Regarding Muslim jinns — Allah mentions them in the Qur’an, in surah Jinn; that a group of them listened to the recitation of the Qur’an of rasulullah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) and believed in it.

Regarding Qareen — we know that Jinns generally have very, very long lives (more than humans). In fact, some fortune tellers, when they say that they can connect you to the “soul of the dead family member,” really call upon that person’s Qareen — which is how they have accurate information about that person.

Wallahu a’lam. Jinns are not something to worry about insha’Allah, their world and our world rarely overlap.

    Assalamualaikum
Brother u really have a great knowledge regarding qareen….I would be very greateful if u could help me out in solving my problem for the sake of Allah….. Can I mail to you my question…

    Jazakallahukhairan

  8. @Farzana what is your question? You can email me insha’Allah ilmfruits@ilmfruits.com

  9. Azeem

    Assalam o alikum,

to me brother the mentioned verse and the hadith both has used the word Qareen in the meanings of companion.

to me Qareen is Nafs-e-Amara who always fight with the Nafs-e-Lawama. If get defeated then it can be called as ‘fa aslam’ or ‘Nafs-e-Motmaieena’

Any psychiatrist can communicate with this Nafs/Qareen but can only get the information which that particular person already know. Qareen can not be able to tell u about the future but only about the past or present which is already in the knowledge of that person. So for example i have 20 dollars in my pocket and i know it .. meaning my Qareen also knows it. But if i take the money out from my pocket without knowing myself that how much i have taken out then Qareen is totally helpless. In conclusion Qareen is not an external creature as per my perspective but only the part of our Nafs. (Nafs-e-Amara)

  10. Ibn Battah

It’s nice to think Qareen are not physical beings, but they are. The Arabic and hadith is very clear. Ask any occult practitioner or sooth-sayer.

  11. mohammed

bismillahil rahman ilraheem. WHAT!! crazyer u have to understand you dont and never knew the future nothing in the heavens and the earth and everything in between has 3ilm al ghayb knowledge of the unseen or knows the future except ALLAH سبحانه وتعالى may Allah سبحانه وتعالى forgive us and increase our knowledge.

  12. fathima

some people say that the Prophet sallahu alai wasalam and also saints come into their bodies to talk to people.Qareen’s at work?

  13. @fathima that seems very likely!

  14. fathima

How to verify that we have actually seen Ya Rasullulah? Can that dream be from our desire to see our Beloved Prophet? Can the shaytaan come in a another form and say he is Ya Rasul?

  15. fezz

    Slms

A little of the topic, but I suspect that somehow all this is related to Jinn, so here goes…..Cosmic conciuosness, connecting to the divine, divine light and all these new age concepts, maybe not so new but they seem to have gathered great momentum. There are people that say through meditation, you can contact your “spirit guide” and even angels to assist, advise and protect you. There are loads of books and litertature even on the internet about these things. Would you say that these concepts are again, shaytaan and jinn trying to corupt our thinking and lead us away from Allah?

  16. @fezz wa’alikum as-salaam,

Jazakumullahu khayran. You have asked a very deep question. We should insha’Allah investigate each of these concepts (since I am not very familiar with many of them in detail) and see how they compare and contrast to what we are taught in our religion.

To be brief, let’s consider the two ends of the spectrum. If they ARE true and there is some goodness in them — then Allah has said “al-yawmu akmaltukum deenakum,” “today I have perfected your religion” — and these things, if they are true and good, are not necessary to reach the heights of Jannah Al-Firdaws Al-’Ala.

And the other end of the spectrum — many of them do contain shirk and ideas that run contrary to the reality of Islam. Some of their concepts, like becoming a “part” of Allah or getting His attributes, are blatant shirk and kufr. As for angels and Jinns — likely it is a plot of the evil shayateen to draw people away from the truth — these creatures live their own lives and don’t want (or need) to interact with us at all.

Wallahu a’lam. I would avoid this kind of stuff. Alhamdulillah Islam is simple and easy to learn and practice, and there are always deeper and higher levels to go to for those who wish to be closer to Allah.

  17. NAWABZADA SHAJEE NAW

Assalam aliekum wa rahmtullahhi wa barakathoho.
Brother in Islam, the subject is obviously very interesting! I had had the opportunity to go through the Old Testament and in SEARCH of the brief context of the subject, it is mentioned that the Quareeen were under the auspice of Huzruth Soleman bin Dawood Alehi wus salam, it was also revealed by one of the companion in the Hadith, and were allowed to recite the following verses of the Duaa by our beloved Prophet Huzrath Mohammed [pbuh].
Would you please confirm and emphasis on the subject matter, :: Bisimillahi ShujjatooN Qareen natooon milhatoon bahrin qafta.::

Slms, jazakallah for responding to my question, much appreciated.

You’ve said that “these creatures live their own lives and don’t want (or need) to interact with us at all”. But apparently, each person has a Qareen and this Qareen knows everything about us, “Everything”. Whenever I talk to moulanas, they ask me questions that are so specific to my life that it shocks me. A friend told me that everyone has a qareen and the moulana aks his jinn to get information from my qareen.
Some moulanas work with “mu’akals”. I’m not sure what these are but they talk to them. The bottom line is that these things are part of our lives. Yes, we cannot see them because our physical vision is blind to them, but some people do see them. Also, I learnt from a very young age that we all have angels that write down our good and bad deeds.

I can’t understand how Christian pastors, Hindu priests and “holy men” from other faiths are able to perform feats that to us seem humanly impossible. They cure the sick, remove demons and they too know things about people’s personal lives, all through the power of their “Gods”. What are they doing that allows people who are worship the “wrong Gods” to accomplish this?

I know genuinely good christian people who have told me of fantastic things that they have done which couldn’t have, had there not been some divine or supernatural intervention. Lets look at another example, chinese people talk of “chi or ki” which is the life force of people and they also mention the “aura”. Using chi energy, they are able to break bricks, withstand tremendous physical punishment and other such feats.
Where do evil forces come into all this? people have beliefs that are totally non-islamic or what we would refer as “contrary to Islam”, yet they have special abilities. Where do these abilities come from?

    It’s all mind boggling……..

  19. Rushdi

Can I have the email of somebody who is well knowledge in this field it’s a bit personal and would not want to express it here

  20. Nawabzada Shajee Naw

it is reported that generally the qareen mislead the
mankind towards shirk, and often plays with their lives.
very recently i came to know that at a particular spot of the roadside, every year in the same month and date there occurs an accident in which a person loses his life, and his qareen join,s the company of the senior Qareens, who are already there and had had played the mischievous death trap. this was disclosed, by a captured Qareen in a Holy Quran’s recitation ceremony, while the Alim recited Holy Quran, the effected man started crying and all of a sudden his sound changed and the Qareen came upon him and started shouting in pain, he was unable to bare the Quaranic verses he disclosed about all their mischieves they use to play and are playing with the mankind.
